The people don't care what the hell I am wearing. There's no chattering about how expensive or good looking my new top is, in the morning when I come to school. That is why I can finally wear what I actually feel like. I can wear my favourite big jumpers, my favourite shoes, my jeans and put my hair up. I love the way the air smells just before the rain and right after. I love the way it's rainy when I want to wear something cuddly and it's sunny when I want to wear something pretty. I love the way I actually have the chance to take the beach for granted. I love the way I can get up look outside, see a cloudy sky and still want to do something. I love the way the wind sometimes knocks me over and the short rain showers which clear the air and my head. I love how I actually have a favourite spot to sit, where the waves crash against the rocks. I love how the water can be turquoise and calm or dark blue and stormy. I love that my way to school involves walking in the morning breeze and not sitting in buses and subways for hours. I love the way the people honk to greet you, not to curse. I love the way I can say “Bonjour!” to everyone on the streets if I'm feeling good and they'll actually respond nicely. Or I can smile at a bus driver and he'll wave. I love the way the people are all so relaxed. I love how the school has a little garden and chairs to sit and chat about the important things in life in between the classes. I love the way we have havepretty long recesses to talk. I love my locker. My assistant, my slave, my closet, my second home. I love the way the heart on my lock reminds me of the people I love, every morning. I love the way I get all excited about Fridays during the week and how sad I am at the weekend because I think I totally stuffed up my only chance in German classes . I love the way people say “Hi!” to me in the mornings, even though I might not even know them yet. I love saying hello with two kisses. I love the way some people try to speak German just because of me. It makes me feel special. I love the way there are sometimes fights in the afternoon break. It's always an exciting part in school everyday life. Running after the two fighters and getting caught up in a huge crowd. Pure chaos. I love the way the cleaning lady doesn't clean that well and leaves my stuff chaotic, just the way I like it. I love the way I have something to miss. I love the way the beautiful things here let me forget the things I miss. I love the way everything is so tropical. I love the plants and the hibiscus everywhere I go. I love how my favourite flower, Frangipani , is in almost every garden. I love the way there are coconuts in abundance. But I think most of all there is one thing I absolutely love the most about New Caledonia: la 3°1. It is the most perfect class ever. I love everything about them. And every person in it. I love the tight relationship in our class. I love the way I can actually write that it is “our” class. I love that I am a member in this wonderful class. There is yet someone to mention and that of course is my German class. I absolutely adore them. From the sweet girls to the big boys. I love how they talk German and how relaxed the atmosphere is. I love how we get to listen to music. Although not always with permission. I love how we talk about “des grands mots” in French and in German. I love how I can gossip with Anaïs in German and nobody a knows what we are talking about. I love the way the German teacher needs my help. And that I am the total King at at least one subject. I love the way everybody hates the sports teacher and we have the short trips to the table tennis hall and back. I love the afternoon on “Ile aux canards” or in my pool. I love how we photograph good looking strangers. I love the parties. I love the sunsets and the sunrises. I love how much I hate the girl in my tennis classes and I have no idea why. I love Halloween and getting stuff in my hair. Or being emo with loan at a sleepover. I love sitting in church with Stef talking about how to steal the necklace of the guy with the cool hair. Or showing everyone our “cool” handshake. I love walking barefoot from school in the rain. I love my new blue bracelet. I love hating the holidays because of my love sickness. I love loitering in front of the library with a fake library card which, when having, it's not hard to have fun. I love my “meilleure ami” of english classes, who sits next to me and is just as bored as me. Or our basketball team, that has no chance of beating the others. I love making funny photos in music class or sleeping in art class. I love watching the wallisians dance in the break or seeing how everybody is trying to open Nathan's lock, and it's not working. I love driving with the bus. I love hanging around place de cocotiers, without any expectations of course.

In such a short time this has all grown so important to me. I dedicate this to you, my island. I am so glad to have moved to New Caledonia. I love you, Noumea. I love you, New Caledonians. I love you, Palms. I love you, my girls.
